about Mccormick County airport

Since McCormick County Airport’s construction completion in early 80s, Airport has served business general aviation users averaging almost 5000 itinerant and local annual operations during the first seven years of operation and around 1000 annual operations at the beginning of the 1990s.

The first McCormick County Airport Master Plan was developed in 1995, along with a land zoning plan to include height restrictions and incompatible land use. During the 2000s, the Airport development was not prioritized by the local administration, and the Airport lost its based aircraft and lighting system.

Today, McCormick County Economic Development considers Airport an essential driver for the economy and plans to restore and maintain the Airport to support the local community and create new business opportunities.

our Expertise

MaesAwyr assists McCormick County in developing a comprehensive roadmap for airport development, taking into account the interests of all stakeholders and the County's vision. Our approach involves close interaction, effective communication, and meticulous attention to detail as we work with the airport to implement their ambitious plans and goals.

One of our most impactful recent projects was an airport planning endeavor. This project played a crucial role in defining McCormick County's development plan for the next decade. It encompassed navigating the administrative process, consulting with all relevant parties, holding public hearings, and securing approval from both the County Council and the Town of McCormick for the airport ordinance. The updated airport ordinance will now be incorporated into the existing McCormick County ordinance.

Moreover, this project allowed us to gauge the level of interest within the McCormick County community towards airport development. It also enabled us to compile a list of potential partners and interested parties for the facility development. We conducted a thorough analysis of the market demand for hangars at the McCormick County Airport, outlining feasible rent ranges for forthcoming hangars and confirming the demand for such facilities. Additionally, we reviewed the contributing factors to hangar prices, providing McCormick County with the necessary information to make informed decisions about the amenities they would prefer to include in future hangar developments at the airport.

As part of our commitment to finding non-standard and unconventional funding opportunities, we are currently collaborating with the National Guard on a seized McCormick County airport grading project. This project would have been financially challenging for the County otherwise, but it is essential to bring the airport up to state and federal safety standards. Currently in progress, the project requires extensive coordination and a thorough environmental review.

Looking ahead, the next project on our radar is the obstructions removal initiative. This project holds significant importance as it aims to ensure clear approaches to the airport, free of any obstacles. During the review for the 10-year plan, we identified a few tree obstructions that are currently interfering with the airport's approach and need to be addressed.
