WHAT IS STRATEGIC PLANNING?
Do you think strategic planning is:
a corporate buzzword for big businesses and big airports?
only for organizations with deep pockets and plenty of staff?
not relevant to your airport?
too abstract to implement?
an effort paid for with good money - like those other planning documents - but becomes a binder on a shelf, a paper collection of once ambitious goals, but now only pops up once a year around CIP submittal time?
yeah, we used to, as well.
We assumed it was for huge companies with expensive consultants and execs at a beachside retreat, just figuring out how to spend their future profits
(while drinking fruity booze with an umbrella in it, of course).
At MaesAwyr, we made plans and set annual goals, but didn’t yet appreciate the value and potential return on investment that comes from implementing an actionable, committed strategic plan.
We thought the process was too time consuming, and not at all possible given the finite resources of time and money.
We were so wrong!
We thought:
what if we could streamline the abstract, long-winded strategic planning process to find clarity on priorities most relevant to our company’s vision and values?
could we start with a small set of goals and realistically implement them, while pausing the other ‘stuff’ to be done to grow, scale, optimize, synthesize, whatever?
can a plan be dynamic - would we need to start over again with every priority and goal?
what if our priorities change (hello COVID-19!)?
We answered these questions and found amazing results.
With a focus on real action, taken in small, strategic steps, we implemented and maintained goal after goal, meeting priorities, then moving on to the next.
When priorities changed, we were able to pivot without it being painful.
All while still being of service to our clients.
similarities between our small, niche consulting firm
and your small, unique airport
are striking, and perfect for the framework we’ve developed specifically for
airports and communities like yours.
Say it out loud. Write it down. Publish it. Do it. Measure it.
