about daniel field
The Daniel Field Airport, rooted in US Army Air Corps service for pilot training and aircraft maintenance since 1924, has a modern, multi-faceted role: providing essential support to the City’s vital and vast healthcare presence, serving as a gateway to The Masters each April, supporting nearby federal government activities, and robust manufacturing sectors.
our expertise
DNL had a strict timeline in Summer 2018 to select a new airport consultant, determine the appropriate runway improvements, design and bid a project within four months in order to accept construction funding prior to expiration in FY2019.
The MaesAwyr Team, with its knowledge and background of DNL, eagerly and successfully rose to this challenge, and notwithstanding City of Augusta’s standard approval processes of up to-six weeks, was able to collaborate on and deliver a design solution on time and within budget, fast-tracking all reviews and approvals required as much as possible during the process. Our rigorous quality assurance processes ensured the design’s technical and safety integrity.
DNL, as a municipally-owned airport in an urban environment, routinely has technical issues arise and MaesAwyr advises DNL staff, other City departments, and external stakeholders alike in regulatory requirements, airport operational best practices, airspace considerations, and GDOT polices and procedures.
Further, MaesAwyr was pivotal in developing a project ‘wish-list’ for upcoming Transportation Investment Act (TIA) referendum to establish a one-percent regional sales tax and educating local officials on the importance of this local revenue stream to fund much needed airport improvements through 2032. Two DNL projects totaling more than $6 million will be on the ballot on 24 March.
Current project at DNL in FY2023 is Airfield Electrical System Replacement Project which marks a significant step forward in our commitment to maintaining the highest standards in aviation safety and operational excellence. Airport’s primary goal with this project is to replace the outdated lighting system with cutting-edge fixtures, elevating the airport's overall reliability and bringing it up to modern standards.
