about Louisville Municipal

Louisville is a small, but progressive community with a comprehensive economic development strategy involving its local airport as a prime business recruitment resource for both aviation and non-aviation firms.

our expertise

MaesAwyr has had the pleasure of serving as City of Louisville’s prime airport consultant since 2018, though Amanda has supported the airport with technical assistance and advisory services since 2013 and led the update to 2J3’s Airport Layout Plan in 2014. This plan focused on short-term airfield safety projects and a phased, ultimate landside configuration to provide the maximum utility of airport property with the flexibility to adjust for demand.

The City gradually completed its airfeld safety and maintenance projects during the last several years, including the full airfield crack seal and remarking, PAPI replacement and a design for upgrading the entire airfield electrical system including LED runway lights, taxiway lights, and airfield signage; a replacement/relocated vault, lighted wind cone, and beacon. It is prudent to now focus on generating on-airport revenue by accommodating new based aircraft owners.

Through preliminary evaluation of alternatives, analyses, and cost comparisons, MaesAwyr recommended a site to be reconfigured on the existing terminal apron to significantly reduce costs compared to a new site with more earthwork and paving.

Likewise, MaesAwyr successfully guided the City through a strategic request of Georgia Department of Transportation to advance future Airport Improvement Program (AIP) entitlements in order to fund the hangar development project in 2020.

The design of a new six-unit conventional hangar development was completed during Fall 2020. After the bidding process and creative value engineering conducted by MaesAwyr, the construction was finished in August 2021. All hangars are full.

Presently, the Airport is diligently undertaking an initiative aimed at enhancing the safety and overall environment for pilots. This endeavor entails the installation of a new runway electrical system and airport rotation beacon.

The new electrical system is designed to augment runway visibility and ensure efficient operations during low-light conditions, adverse weather, or night-time operations. This project contributes significantly to the overall safety and precision of aircraft movements.

Simultaneously, new airport rotation beacon will serve as a vital navigational aid for pilots during takeoff and landing procedures. This enhancement will bolster the airport's navigational infrastructure and minimize the risk of potential errors.
